Hi all, I hope everyone is still alive and kicking? Been a while since I touch base with all of your. This is the last week of the 1st half of the semester and before long, year 1 will be over. Just a couple of things I need to remind you all. The most important of which is your self-image. Recently one of you had been caught outside for under-aged smoking (you know who you are and you are supposed to have come and see me!!) Smoking is NOT COOL!. There is no excuse or justifications for anyone of you to smoke. Apart from the health hazards which I am sure you all know what it is, smoking marred one's image and it is costly too. If you are one of those who have this habit, I seriously urge you to kick the habit now.

Basically today lesson is basically go thru about the past year papers, revise methods, array, do while loop and while loop.

you can practice them by download the year 2005 IT1111 and last year paper for practice.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD

go to library portal
(http://libportal.nyp.edu.sg/)

then you need to login as your e service user name and password

go to search for exam papers

type the module code

then you can get the range of pass year exam papers

select the paper on the semester column and you can view the past year papers

save it if you want to

just to summarise upcoming events.

I have been getting lots of complains from other colleagues regarding the conduct and behaviour of this class. Some of you have even been caught for SMOKING on CAMPUS!!! You know who you are guys and you are to come see me ASAP! I want to highlight to all of you to observe your conduct and behaviour which is going down the drain over the weeks. I can see that myself during the tutorial and practical classes. This is most disappointing!

Coming to the poly is not just about studying. It is about shaping and developing your character to be a responsible individual and adult. I hope to see an improvement in your self-image and conduct in the coming semesters. Do this for yourself as it is yourself who you are letting down.

Hi all,

hope you all have had a good time socialising during the class bbq. Thanks Mao Jie, Eugene, Joanne and Cherie for helping me with the shoppings and preparing some of the food. Thanks Bing Xian and Wei Xuan for starting the bbq! And Ivan, the Mee Hoon and the Chicken Curry were delicious - thank your mum for us ;) Here are a couple of photos the event: Enjoy!

Tomorrow is the 1st ever class BBQ. The location of the BBQ is at the Grandeur 8 Condo, opposite NYP and Anderson Junior College. You can come from 5pm onwards, allow the barbie will not start till 5.30 - 6pm. The BBQ pit is No 3B. You can bring along your swim gear and a toiletries to freshen up after the swim. When you come to the condo, report at the Security and said that you are coming to a BBQ at Pit 3B. So see you all there! - :) Doc

There was a incident that came to my attention and I thought I should bring this up to all your attention. A student wrote through the NPY feedback channel e-service :

"Recently during the morning lecture 30th may 08, i was using my laptop during the IT 1106 lecture. While looking at the slides, i realised i know almost everything about the slides that were to be presented. Hence i decided to entertain myself by playing some games. During then a lecturer came up to me asking for my student admin card. I don't think i should be "repremanded" because of it. I know my work already, so what is wrong with using my laptop to do other things? I wasn't causing any distraction to anyone around me"

So do you all think the student did the RIGHT thing? Is it ok to do that during lecture or in class? You might have your own thoughts about this, but my response is: NO There are rules about playing games in classes and you are not suppose to do that. He has shot himself in the foot because the feedback is routed directly to the School of IT Director who is also the Vice Principal of NYP. So do you think the student shouldn't be reprimanded? Your views?

Well, hope things went well on friday in the lab and for the quizz. I was in the next lab and I can see you all behaving well and the tutor was going round and assisting. Hi all,

Don't forget to revise for this coming Friday quiz. The duration of the quiz is 20 minutes, and the weightage is 10%. As I have a specialist doctor (the medical kind ;) ) appointment on friday afternoon, I will not be there in class, instead, the ML and another lecturer will be conducting the quiz on my behalf. So you all MUST BE at the BEST of your behaviour! I do not want to hear any adverse comments or feedbacks regard this class. Please obey instructions given by the lecturer closely and paid attention in class. After the Quiz you will have to commence on the MS Word Assignment.
